Hail damage is covered under comprehensive coverage — not collision. This is an important distinction because comprehensive and collision are two separate parts of your auto insurance policy.
If you only have liability insurance — the minimum required in Texas — hail damage to your own vehicle is not covered. You need comprehensive coverage for that.
This is the question everyone asks — and the good news is that comprehensive claims generally do not raise your insurance rates in Texas. Here's why: hail is considered an "act of God" — something entirely outside your control. Insurance companies typically do not penalize you for weather-related comprehensive claims the way they might for an at-fault collision.
